HYBIRD LAYING HENS  - Our POL Hens all live together making a colourful bunch for you to choose from,  AVALIABLE MARCH - OCT (From £15.00 once 18 weeks or older).

These Hens are what many people think of as traditional garden hens, however they are a far more modern in their breed heritage, known as a hybrid  birds they have been specifically bred over generations for laying, they are freindly birds with lots of character, they are (as their name suggests) very good layers throughtout the majority of the year producing between 300 - 350 eggs per bird per year. They are a real pleasure to own, making  great garden pets.

Their colours do vary, making them all very individual in appearance aswell as character, we normally stock, Black Rock, Bluebell, Amber, Sussex and Leghorn Hybird Hens, which arrive with us between 1  - 2 months old and are ready for collectuion from 15 weeks old, fully vaccinated and wormed. They will normally start to lay around 20 weeks of age once they are setlled into their enviroment and on a diet layers feed.

Once you have choosen your Hens, we can reserve them  for you for upto six weeks. (a non refundable deposit is required). A local delivery service (within 10 miles) is available on request . .

The Buff Orpington

Orpingtons are birds which like to be free range. They have a very strong tendency to go broody and therefore make great mothers. Their eggs are  pinkish. They are greedy birds, very docile, needing free range exercise to keep fit !. Their wingspan is short therefore they can easily be kept in areas with low fences without clipping their fethers. The standard colours for an Orpington are black, blue, buff (as dipicted above) and white. They are a heavy birds but loosely feathered which makes them look large against your standard hybird hen. The blues and blacks are the largest colours. The buffs and whites are slightly smaller. We have various colours avaliable on request however we do specialise in Buff Orpingtons.

**** Please remember that when collecting your hens you will need something to transport them home in either a good size box or even a cat box..  Depending on the weather, when visiting Home Farm Stables, it is advisable to wear wellingtons, well behaved children are more than welcome, but please do leave dogs at home, and ensure you have made an appointment.  Please see our contact information for more details.
